A recent Rasmussen poll reveals that a significant majority of likely United States voters, amounting to 56%, perceive the federal government as a looming threat to Americans’ religious rights. In contrast, only 26% of respondents view the government as a defender of religious freedoms, with 17% expressing uncertainty.

The poll also sheds light on voters’ beliefs regarding the origins of their rights. While 26% attribute their rights to God, a striking 60% indicate that they derive their rights from the Constitution. Conversely, a mere 10% of voters believe their rights emanate from the federal government.

Interestingly, while a majority of voters across the political spectrum, including Democrats (61%), Republicans (59%), and independents (58%), assert that their rights stem from the Constitution, variations emerge regarding divine attribution. Republicans exhibit a higher tendency (33%) to attribute their rights to God compared to Democrats (19%) and Independents (26%).

Conversely, a smaller fraction of respondents from each group believes that the government serves as a protector of these freedoms.
