San Jose State University is facing criticism after allegations surfaced that a transgender athlete on the women’s volleyball team competed without disclosing their biological sex to teammates or opponents. The accusation, revealed by the Black and White Sports video, centers around Blair Fleming, who reportedly joined the team in 2022.

The controversy stems from the addition of Blair Fleming, a transgender athlete formerly known as Braden, to San Jose State’s women’s volleyball team. While transgender inclusion in sports is not a new topic, the manner in which San Jose State handled Fleming’s participation has raised eyebrows.

Video host, John Matrixx, shared that this secrecy has people furious. Parents, athletes, and commentators are all up in arms, arguing that it’s a major blow to fair play in women’s sports and could even put female athletes at risk.

Matrixx shared that concerns about Fleming’s biological sex arose as early as 2022, with parents of opposing players expressing suspicions based on observations of his physical attributes and athletic performance.

One parent noted that Fleming’s athleticism surpassed that of female athletes on the court. Plus, allegations have surfaced that a female player was injured during a match against San Jose State, supposedly due to Fleming’s strength and playing style.

Another anonymous parent had shared that their daughter’s performance in two games wasn’t up to par compared to usual. They believe this may be due to competing against Fleming, who exhibited concerning behavior. Fleming, standing at 6’1″, allegedly stared down at their daughter after plays and displayed an arrogant attitude.

Matrixx shared that for years, Fleming has been a fixture on girls’ volleyball teams. It all started at John Champ High School in Virginia. He then continued at Coastal Carolina University before transferring to San Jose State in 2022. This transfer came right before South Carolina implemented new rules that would have prevented him from playing on the women’s team.

The video went on to share a quote from The Council on Women’s Sports. “This is a total scam on female athletes!” said Mary Smith, spokesperson for the Council. “Women shouldn’t be forced to share locker rooms or compete against someone who isn’t biologically female. It’s a safety risk!”

Matrixx also pointed out that the NCAA’s system might be encouraging this kind of thing. By allowing it to happen, male athletes might gain unfair advantages (like scholarships) over deserving female players. Matrixx added that this whole situation needs to be addressed, and fast.

So what do you think? Should athletes be required to disclose their biological sex before competing in gender-specific sports?
