Retired U.S. Army Colonel Joe Buccino recently discussed potential targets for ISIS attacks within the United States following the deadly terror attack at a Moscow concert hall. Here’s a breakdown of his insights on where ISIS might strike next from the Fox News segment ‘Varney & Co.’

During his tenure as the former director of CENTCOM (U.S. Central Command), Colonel Buccino informed the Senate Armed Services Committee in early 2024 about the growing threat posed by ISIS-K, the external arm of ISIS.

He indicated that ISIS-K would likely have the capability to launch attacks inside Europe and eventually within the United States by the end of 2024. Intelligence reports also indicated that ISIS-K had the capacity to carry out attacks on a global scale.

Potential Targets

Colonel Buccino highlighted ISIS’s global aspirations and desire for spectacular attacks. He mentioned that Paris could be a potential target, especially considering recent social media posts from ISIS purporting an attack on the city. With major events like the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, such targets attract ISIS’s attention due to their global audience and symbolic significance. However, Colonel Buccino emphasized that ISIS-K is keen on attacking targets within the United States.

Vulnerabilities at the Southern Border

One significant concern raised by Colonel Buccino is the vulnerability of the southern border as a potential entry point for ISIS operatives. With thousands of “got aways” crossing the border undetected, there is a risk that some may have affiliations with ISIS or other terrorist organizations. He stressed that the southern border represents a weak point of entry, making it an attractive avenue for infiltration by terrorist elements.

Russia’s Role in the Ukraine Conflict

In response to a question about the Ukraine conflict, Colonel Buccino expressed his view that Russia currently holds the advantage. He suggested that Russia’s strategy involves overwhelming force to compel Ukraine to capitulate. Despite Ukraine’s efforts to resist and mobilize resources, Russia’s superior military capabilities and willingness to escalate the conflict pose significant challenges for Ukraine.

A Negligent Administration

People in the comments shared their disappointment with the administration: “This administration is criminally negligent.”

Some pointed out flaws in what was presented: “The Colonel did not name a single location where ISIS would target in the U.S., only where they would enter, which we already knew.”

Others voiced their criticism: “Keeping the southern border wide open is taking the threat seriously?!”

One commenter concluded: “You know this guy is completely full of it when he says they warned Moscow. Interesting how they’ve been the ones going at them hard. With sanctions. Hating on anyone including their own citizens who were against this Ukraine war, while sending billions of dollars and equipment…. And yet, they want us to believe that for a brief moment, they had a heart and warned Moscow.  Come on now… Give me a break!”
